Job: Construction of a Chook Pen
Location: Eatons Hill
Description:
This client already had a Chook pen, designed to house a maximum of 5 chickens. It had wheels on the base and was designed to be wheeled around the yard so the chooks could graze on grass in different areas. A ramp inside the enclosure led up to the roosting area and laying boxes. The laying box had a hinged lid for easy egg collection. So the Chook inclosure they already had was great but they felt it was too small to house the chooks full time. With small children crawling and learning to walk, they weren’t keen on letting the chooks ‘free range’ the yard due to the chicken poo everywhere!
So Matt’s job was to build a bigger pen and incorporate the inclosure they already had. So this is the design he can up with. It has been built onto the garden shed, which offers the chooks protection from the weather that comes from that direction. A doorway was made in the new inclosure and the chooks were free to roam between the two enclosures. A full size door on the inclosure allows easy assess for cleaning, feeding and just spending time with the chooks! Some thick sticks were added for the chooks to roost on and hooks were installed in the roof for hanging feed and water containers. A small garden bed was made out the front, where the client was going to plant herbs that deter bugs that bother chooks.
Our ‘chook’ customers seemed very happy with the end result!
